Naturalist, Science and Tourism is the only company in the Azores with an academic base working in Tourism, linked to a University (MARE-start up Universidade de Lisboa), and founded by researchers from the University of Lisbon and Azores. Our ocean and land expeditions are guided by Biologists, researchers or specialized guides and 10% of each ticket goes towards our scientific research. From our point of view, tourism has to be linked to science so that the sustainability and quality of our services become a reality.

During these expeditions, our researchers/students on board from the University will share their knowledge and projects with you making this expedition a differentiating factor from the standard Whale Watching. Our specialists will use all data collected onboard for scientific purposes.
Note that we use a zodiac boat. Therefore, children below 5 years, pregnant women, and passengers with health issues are not allowed to board. ALso, note that on the day of the activity we will know about ocean conditions and in case of bad weather tours will have to be rescheduled to another date or time. Information about all species observed in the Azores will be provided before each tour.

Expeditions at 9am or at 14h00, please arrive 15 minute ahead!

INCLUDES: Briefing/Debriefing, Marine researcher onboard, Waterproof Clothes, Lifejacket, Safety Insurance.

PICO ISLAND:

In case you are requesting a Pico pick up (Madalena Pick up), please contact us to confirm that our boat can pick you in Madalena (last minute bookings cannot be confirmed online), it is easy for us but we need to confirm availability and above all good weather conditions. If not possible you can easily come by ferry to Faial, 30 minutes by ferry only and several schedules available (atlanticoline.pt), we will give you all informations if this is the case. Use your time to explore Faial ocean and land (Capelinhos and Caldeira).
